Window Brackets
While window brackets are made of metals that resist corrosion and deformation, eventually most of them will become damaged in one way or the other. These defects will compromise your windows ability to function and may cause harm to the portion of the house near the window, and in the case of items such as air conditioner brackets, which hold the AC unit in the window, allowing them to deteriorate into a state of disrepair could endanger the health of those who live in and around your home. An AC unit falling from a window could not only do considerable damage to someone passing underneath it, but would leave the window open for intruders to enter the house or for pets or children to wander out of the house. You can substantially lengthen the life of your window brackets by making sure that they stay clean, lessening the possibility that they will become corroded and cease functioning properly.
Window Shade Brackets
To clean your brackets, first you must locate them. There may be more window brackets than you think. There may be some on your AC unit, on your window shades, on a planter or shelf on the outside of the building. All of these must be located and cared for if they are to continue to do their job. Missing one important bracket could undermine the safety of your window, making the work you put into the maintenance worthless. What’s the use of cleaning four easily found brackets only to later discover that you missed one that is necessary for holding your air conditioner in place?
Iron Window Bracket
Since not all window brackets are made of the same metal, there are different methods one must use to keep them clean. Many brackets are made from iron. Iron is an easy metal to keep clean. Simply wipe it regularly with a nylon brush. You shouldn’t use steel wool, wire brushes, or abrasive sponges on iron fixture as these could scratch it.
Bronze fixtures can be clean using a mild soap and a brush or sponge. Under very wet circumstances iron can develop green patches. It is best to consult a professional about restoring these spots to their previous condition. If you have brackets made of stainless steal, there are several methods for cleaning them. You can use water and a clothe, a mild detergent, or stainless steel cleaner if you wish to remove scratches or add shine to the metal.
