Scarf Window Treatment
Often referred to as scarf curtains or valiances, window scarves are an easy way to decorate your window. They can be made with any fabric of your choosing, just be conscious of the design and layout of your room or what you want your overall window design concept to be. Window scarves allow you to be creative with your design and deviate from the norm. It is always a good idea, though, to follow a classic design and add your own ideas from there.
Hanging Window Scarves
The scarves can be hung in any way you choose. One classic design uses valiance sconces to hold the scarf on either side of the window an allow it to drape in the center and on the sides of the frame. Another idea is to wrap the scarf around a bar or rod and create your own design. Perhaps the most common way to hang a scarf is by using already existing hooks or bars and drape it over the top to hide them and distract the viewer from them. The beauty of window scarves is that you control the length on either side. You can make both sides even, or have one lower than the other. It allows you to be creative with your window treatments and make it your own.
How To Hang Window Scarves
Here is a very traditional way to hang a window scarf. Pleat the scarf lengthwise making the appearance look almost like an accordion. You can then pin the scarf on both sides to allow the rest of the fabric to hang on the sides of the frame. Scarf holders or sconces can be used to create a threaded pattern in the center of the scarf. You can also drape or wrap it around a rod. Use the sconces to secure the two corners of the scarf. For a more traditional look, let the center portion of the scarf hand down and spread out the pleats in a uniform fashion. Make sure everything is secure before removing the pins. If all went well you should have a beautiful and traditional hanging window scarf.
Scarf Draperies For Window Treatments
Window scarves are a perfect when paired with window draperies. Draperies are usually stationary or attached to a rod for opening and closing. Te scarf allows you to play with movement and flow of your window design. This also allows you to play with color. The drapery can be one color, while the scarf can be another.
Window scarves can also be used as the drapery themselves. You just need to simply drape the scarf over a rod or bar and hang them at the desired length. This allows you to easily change the design and length of your drapery without purchasing another set.
