Window shades come in a vast panoply of styles and materials. Window shades are primarily made with light see-through materials that allow some light to filter in. Unlike blinds and curtains, which try to block a large majority of the light. The complete opposite (blocking all light) is also available. Pull down shades and ones with drawstrings are the most popular, but motorized and automatic shades are now becoming quite popular. Along with the see-though variety, there is also a large demand for woven or wooden shades. Basket weave patterns are quite popular as is bamboo. These shades do not allow as much light in as their opaque counterparts, but still allow some light to seep in.

Blackout Window Shades

When curtains are not enough, most people turn to blackout shades to completely block out the sun and outside lights. They are made with a thick or dark material that allows no light into the interior space. They take up less room than curtains or drapes and can easily fit into any interior design you might have. Now that automatic shades are readily available, it is now effortless to settle down on the couth, close the shades, and watch your favorite television program or movie.

Car Window Shades

Car window shades are an excellent way to keep the sun at bay while driving. Usually a dark material, car shades attach to the inside of the car window or can be installed in the ceiling and can then be pulled down. This is perhaps one of the most efficient ways to keep the sun out of your eyes while driving, but while still maintaining your freedom of vision. Shades also help keep the car cooler by blocking some of the heat that is brought in from the sunlight. Car shades are also perfect for passengers, especially young children, who are more sensitive to sunlight and may become irritated, causing unwanted stress on your part.

Custom Window Shades

Like almost every other window treatment, window shades can be specially made to suit your design and environmental needs. Most companies will allow you to choose the material and form of the shade within set parameters. Shades can also be custom made to fit in between you windows. This allows you to keep some sunlight out and rids you of keeping the shades clean. Woven, wooden, and bamboo shades can also be custom made to fit you needs. The woven shades can be made with certain designs or patterns, while the bamboo and wooden shades can be made with specific types of wood/bamboo and shaped to your specifications.
