Window Shutters

Window Shutters

Many homes have window shutters as a part of their décor. These shutters may be wooden if the home is older, however, newer homes usually have vinyl shutters because they are easy to maintain and require no painting. While most homes have shutters that match their outdoor trim, some homeowners choose to have a complementing color, which makes the home unusual and eye-catching. Most shutters are stationary, as it has been many years since homeowners actually used their outdoor shutters for privacy.

Outdoor Window Shutters

Outdoor window shutters will last for many years without need of repair or replacement. However, if you find that your shutters are rotten and need to be replaced, you can usually find pre-sized shutters at your local home improvement store. If you require specialty shutters, or you simply do not like your options at the store, you can easily find contractors who will custom cut shutters for you; or you can special order shutters from companies who will cut the shutters to fit your personal measurements. Make sure that you replace all of your outdoor shutters at one time in order to keep continuity of design. Most contractors recommend that you replace wooden outdoor window shutters with vinyl for an easy to maintain appearance. You need to be certain, however, that the vinyl shutters will not contrast with older home styles.

Cleaning Window Shutters

Cleaning indoor window shutters is usually quite easy. Most shutters are made from wood and need to be cleaned with a soft rag and furniture polish. If you are cleaning your outdoor window shutters, you will need to use an exterior surface cleaner, like Windex Outdoor. Outdoor surface cleaners can be purchased at any home improvement store, and even some grocery stores. These cleaners can easily be attached to a hose and sprayed onto the shutters’ surface, and you do not even have to wipe the shutters or dry them. Vinyl window shutters are much easier to clean than wooden shutters, because they repel most dirt and spray easily. If you have wooden shutters, you may find that you have to take a cloth and individually clean each shutter, which takes some time and effort.
