Window Toppers
Window toppers are an easy yet effective way of utilizing your window for decorative purposes. They come in a vast array of fabrics ranging from cotton to velvet and also materials such as wood or plastic. Buildings all around the world are using these simple yet elegant toppers to transform their interior spaces into one cohesive design. Apart from the decorative, window toppers also serve a wide array of functional purposes such as light reflection and privacy. Both of these two important facets should be taken into account when searching for a window topper.
Window Topper Interior Design
As far as design goes, window toppers are usually narrowed down to two key areas of the window. The first is the top of the window. The two most commonly used designs are:
The simple rod and fabric design. This design allows for maximum design focus with little space being taken up. The basic premise is a rod or bar (usually decorative materials such as cast iron or painted metals are utilized) spans the top section of the window. The rod is then run through the upper section of fabric, which has been sewn to allow the bar to run through it. The rod and fabric is then placed upon two holders and the design is completed. This is the most basic design. A number of other techniques are also utilized to create specific design points. A good example would be ruffles. The fabric or material is sewn in a way to create ruffles on the section of fabric/material that covers the bar. This will usually create pleats (folds in the fabric/material) further down. Another common design is to thread the bar through the top portion creating a circular folded design. The second design is the top box. This design is a box or circular shaped top that extends outward from the window. A good example of this design would be the entrance to a restaurant. Restaurants typically use this design both for its elegance, but also to keep their patrons warm and dry if waiting by the door. This design is mainly used outdoors, but there is no reason to create a unique design on the interior of your house as well.
Window Curtain Toppers
The next section of the window is the sides and center. This area is usually utilized by drapes or curtains. Drapes are pieces of fabric/material that can be hung over the center of the window but are usually held to the sides of the window. Curtains are usually hung from a bar above the window. They are split into two sections so they can be opened to allow light inside. Keep in mind that window toppers can be created using a vast number of different fabrics and materials to create specific interior design points for your space. These are just two examples of window toppers and how they are used for design purposes, but they also serve a functional purpose.
Functionality
Apart from the visual appeal, window toppers also serve other purposes. The main function of a topper is to keep light from entering the interior space. Different fabrics and materials will keep out different levels of light. Toppers are also used to keep light from escaping the interior. Another key function is privacy. Toppers allow you to keep peering eyes out of your business so you can relax and enjoy your privacy.
