Window Seat Wood Working Plan

A window seat is a very elegant and easy way to create a viewing area for your window. The most simple and effect way to create your own window seat is with a wooden box with a hinged top. To begin make sure you pick solid pieces of wood that can withstand a good amount of weight on top of them. Also remember to pick out a wood that will match with the rest of your furniture. Measure out how high you want the seat to be when placed beneath the window. Make sure to allow room for the cushion that will be placed on the seat. Then measure how long and wide you would like your box. With the measuring done, begin cutting your wood. You will need four rectangular pieces of wood that match the length and width of your measurements. The next two pieces of wood are the sides of the box. When cutting the sides, make sure to account for the space the four other pieces of wood will take up. For example, if you are making a box that is 2’X3’ and your wood is ½” thick, then your two side pieces will actually be 1’11”X2’11”. Glue three of the longer pieces to the side boards and nail them together for further support. You should now have a box with two sides and a bottom. To attach the lid, simply screw hinges into the last piece of wood and secure it to one of the other long boards. Place a large pillow or cushion on top to finish your simple, yet elegant window seat.

Wood Window Blinds

Wooden window blinds are an excellent alternative to metal or vinyl blinds that you find. Wooden blinds go best when used in homes that utilize a lot of wood products and wooden window frames. Make sure that the color of the wood matches, or at least, complements the other wood furniture or floor in your home. Wooden blinds are usually more expensive than vinyl or metal blinds, but that does not mean there are cheap ones available. Check your local thrift stores and the internet for a good deal.

Custom Wood Windows
Many people today are building their homes from the ground up. If you have the money, a good investment would be to have custom wooden window frames installed. By choosing your own design, wood, and size, you have more control over the total look and feel of your home. Many woodworkers can even inlay custom designs into your frames, creating a window that is simply unique.
